Google Search Results Redirected

March 29th, 2010 No comments

Just had the following problem on a client’s windows XP machine.

  • Access to Google’s home page was slow (.com .co.uk .de and many more)
  • All search results are redirected (or Hijacked) to a web site.

After running virus, adware and malware scans “Spyware Doctor™”  identified a malware redirect in the windows host file.

Solution.

Make a backup copy of (windowssystem32driversetchosts) and then remove any references to Google.  I also had to delete some records for Yahoo so look out for any other redirects.

Note: Spyware Doctor™ offers time unlimited real-time protection (free spyware blocking), but does not remove threats detected during on-demand scans”.
